Allen Centre ACES - Learning to relate to each other through the use of board games.

Board games are major fun, but they can also be a great, interactive learning tool.  When children play board games, they learn valuable skills such as turn taking, as well as the skill of knowing when to act and when to wait!  How to be a humble winner and a gracious loser!  Children can gain knowledge of how to listen well, follow directions, and respond appropriately. Some games help hone the ability to think and plan ahead, and some help children to think about the consequences of their actions. Board games can help teach collaboration, and how to make the most of our classmates  strengths.  They can build communication and discussion.

This term, the children are enjoying exploring and playing many, many different board games to help develop these lifelong skills.

Remember elastics when you were young? When playing elastics, the children had to work together as well as having the opportunity to really challenge themselves individually.  Some of the kids were just amazing when showcasing their ability to jump, twist, and leap VERY HIGH!

Traditional Maori Whai, or commonly known as string games were such fun.  Not only did the children dazzle me with their dexterity, and ability to follow complex instructions, they also revealed some truly amazing teaching and leadership skills. A very big well done to the Outram children of all ages, who took the time to teach others the art of what.

At the end of term 2, Room 5 shared their board games with the other children in the school.  WOW! What an amazing job they had done.  Some very original and quality based board games, as well as some very happy kids.  Well done Room 5.  You are stars!
