Welcome Back!

WELCOME TO 2017

Board games are major fun, but they can also be a great, interactive learning tool.  When children play board games, they learn valuable skills such as turn taking, as well as the skill of knowing when to act and when to wait!  How to be a humble winner and a gracious loser!  Children can gain knowledge of how to listen well, follow directions, and respond appropriately. Some games help hone the ability to think and plan ahead, and some help children to think about the consequences of their actions. Board games can help teach collaboration, and how to make the most of our classmates  strengths.  They can  build discussion and communication.

The Allen Centre kicks off again this year with the ever popular board games extravaganza.  Back by popular demand, these games are designed to practice the skills underpinning the Key Competency: Relating to Others.

This term we have:

  • played HEAPS of board games
  • taught others how to play the games
  • made videos of how to play the more complex games
  • discussed and explored different strategies
  • practised waiting for our turn
  • used positive and supportive language, as well as super friendly tone of voice

Celebrating our individuality as well as the new book ODD DOG OUT!
For busy dogs, a busy day of busy work and busy play......
It’s a dog’s life in the big city but there's someone who doesn’t quite fit in. It’s lonely being the odd dog out, so she packs her case and travels around the world to try to find her place in it. Maybe it’ll take a different kind of journey for her to discover that the place she’s meant to be is right back where she started. A funny, heart-warming and poignant story about the power of being yourself and blazing your own trail. Winner of the BSC Festival of Literature Picture Book Award 2017.
